Temper Tantrums Sometimes Best Ignored Print E-mail
Written by M. Derni

Child psychologists say ignoring your child's temper tantrum is often a good way to prevent tantrums in the future. First of all, it is nearly impossible to reason with a child who is caught up in an emotional rage. When a kid's temper flies out of control, he or she isn't always capable of active listening. Secondly, any attention the child gets as a result of the tantrum will only encourage a repeat performance. The more you acknowledge the behavior and the harder you try to get them to stop the more rewarding the experience becomes for your child. As long as the child is in a safe environment and unable to cause harm to himself or others, it is sometimes best just to ignore his kicking and screaming.
