Fluffy Dee, the Funkadelic Hamster

Not long ago, and pretty close by, there lived a very cute hamster named Fluffy-Dee.
She looked like an orange powder-puff and always had her fur coat just so.
She lived very well, and spent most days painting her nails, brushing her fur,
and reading books about other hamsters who had seen and done many neat things.
Once in a while, she would even get on the treadmill and "go a few rounds."
Being in tip-top shape was important to Fluffy,
in case she ever did get the chance to run around the neighborhood.

But that was only a dream.
The days were long and lonely for Fluffy-Dee.
"If I could just go on an adventure and meet some other hamsters," she thought.
"That would be fun." Then one day while Fluffy-Dee was lounging on her pillow
and sharpening her teeth on a piece of wood-shaving,
Marcy Lou, keeper of Fluffy's hamster palace, set her radio right next to the cage
as she rushed off to soccer practice.
It was in reach of Fluffy's tiny paws
and she knew she'd like to turn it on in order to spice up her afternoon.
"But which button?" she wondered. There were so many.
It's a good thing she had all afternoon to figure it out.

So Fluffy-Dee squeezed her little arms through the wire walls and began pushing buttons.
Static flew out of the speaker, and then a bunch of talking blasted through.
"Oooh, that's too loud!
I better stick some cotton from my pillow in my ears until
I can figure out how to turn it down," she thought.
"Ladies night at Tomato's. Women get in free!" the radio blared.
"There's heavy traffic on the eastbound 412 near the Rosedale exit," it continued.
"And then it was quiet.
The noise was down low.

Fluffy-Dee took the cotton from her ears and fiddled with the knob on the side.
A soft thumping with a groovy beat came through.
"Aah...that's nice," she whispered.
She bobbed her head to the beat and tapped her tiny toe.
The tunes that came from the radio were soothing and Fluffy liked them very much.
She closed her eyes, rested her head, and listened as she drifted off to sleep.

About an hour or so later, a pounding came from the radio.
Boom! Boom! Boom! It woke Fluffy from her slumber.
It was a funky mix, and Fluff leaped from her pillow. She spun around and began shaking her tail.
She couldn't help it. She lifted her nose, waved her arms in the air, and began doin' a dance.
It was electric. It was silly. And it felt good.

KA-BANG! The bedroom door flew open.
It was Marcy Lou. She was back from soccer practice and ran over to her radio to turn it off.
"What?" she gasped, as she looked in the cage. Her precious hamster, Fluffy-Dee was dancing!
"Mom," she yelled. "Come in here and look at Fluffy-Dee.
She's mixin' it up!" Marcy's mom was also amazed.
"Reading? And now dancing? Your hamster is very talented," said Marcy's mom.
"Let's call the news stations," she suggested. "This is a great story."

A bit later, the news crew arrived.
We've never seen anything like it," reporters announced. "Get a clasp," another yelled.
"What song is playing?" one asked.
A zillion questions were thrown at Fluffy, and then the reporters were gone.

Fame came quickly for Fluffy-Dee.
From that day forward, she was big, big, big!
A major hit, so in demand she spent the entire summer touring neighboring hamster cages,
teaching her groovy moves, and showing the value of a good book.
But the best thing that came out of her claim-to-fame talents was a lasting message.
"You can make your dreams come true if you practice what you love, and set your mind to reaching goals.
"I wanted to meet more hamsters," said Fluffy. "And I have gotten to know many.
" Fluffy-Dee was able to encourage other hamsters to follow their dreams, and for that opportunity she was grateful.
